Community Outreach

For our 2017 Women Will Community Outreach, the Democratic Women of North Carolina are proud to join forces with the Diaper Bank of North Carolina, located in Durham and with branches in the Triangle, Greater Triad and Cape Fear regions.

Please work with your local Democratic Women’s chapter to help the DWNC show that Democratic Women Will lead the way in supporting the Diaper Bank of North Carolina ‘s vision:

“Every family in North Carolina will have access to basic necessities to support their dignity, health, and quality of life.”

The Diaper Bank of North Carolina (DBNC) works to ensure that families receive hygiene products they need by working with established family-support organizations to distribute diapers to low-income families. Using these existing networks, DBNC can efficiently get diapers to those in greatest need.

The DWNC is asking each chapter to support this effort and become Diaper Diva’s by donating cash, checks or money orders, made payable to the Diaper Bank of NC at the 2017 Convention.

Our 17th Annual DWNC Stars Banquet

“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” Albert Schweitzer

This year the Democratic Women of North Carolina is celebrating its fifty-sixth anniversary . We invite you to be a part of this momentous occasion by participating in the 17th Annual STARS Banquet.

We want to help you honor the often unsung heroes of your local elected leadership, county party, auxiliaries, and campaigns. Each year, the Democratic Women of North Carolina sponsors the STARS Banquet at our annual convention to honor the women and men who have done extraordinary things on behalf of Democrats across our state. This has been a challenging period in politics, and we know you have within your organization volunteers who have done remarkable things to help Democrats move forward. In addition, you may consider honoring your elected Democratic leadership (mayor, town or county council member, sheriff, clerk of court, NCGA members, etc.) as STARs.

You can acknowledge those who have notably served by sponsoring them as a DWNC STAR for $100. Your STAR will be recognized for his/her contributions to your organization at the STARS Banquet, Saturday evening of convention, with the presentation of a certificate and pin of appreciation . We encourage you to pay the cost of your honoree’s dinner, $45, as part of your expression of gratitude.

This year’s DWNC annual convention will be hosted by the Democratic Women of Forsyth County in Winston Salem. The DWNC Fifty–Seventh Anniversary Celebration and Convention will occur September 22-24. We hope that you and your STAR will be able to join us on the Saturday evening of this event, however attendance is not required and all STARS will be recognized whether they are in attendance or not. If your STAR is unable to attend we will insure that a program, the certificate and pin are all delivered to your honoree.

Below you will find a STAR form to be completed and returned. You may honor more than one of your hard working volunteers. For each honoree, we are requesting a completed registration form, a photo of your STAR, and a check made out to the DWNC. Deadline for submission is August 21, 2017.

We look forward to meeting and honoring your STAR at this year’s 17th Annual DWNC STAR Banquet. In addition to honoring your stars, you can help the DWNC by approaching local and district party and elected officials to ask them to sponsor a staff member or an outstanding volunteer. This is a special opportunity to show our gratitude for those who give so much to our efforts.

Democratically yours,

Rosita Wiggins:  Co-chair, DWNC STARS Banquet

Sharon Castleberry:  Co-chair, DWNC STARS Banquet

Sarah Anderson:  Co-chair, DWNC STARS Banquet

These completed forms should be returned to DWNC STARS, PO Box 1064, Clayton, NC  27528.  Photographs of your STARS in action should be sent by email to Sarah Anderson.
